As a Denver family photographer, I work with some of the best families, and sometimes, I work with them year after year. But often, when the weather changes, families think they have to take photos indoors, and that is the furthest thing from the truth! It all comes down to timing and your overall vision for the shoot, especially during the cooler months. If you’re planning your fall or winter Denver family session and worried about choosing a location, I’ve got you covered!
In-Home Family Photos with Denver Family Photographers
In-home photos are an excellent option for families with younger kids, especially during the cooler months. However, they’re not for everyone! In-home sessions give a more cozy lifestyle feel while capturing your family in their everyday environment. This is especially great if you have shy kids. It’s an easy way to make them feel comfortable and authentic. They’ll want to show off their toys and space; it’s perfect.
Another option for an in-home Denver family session is to plan an activity or two, such as playing games inside by the fire, baking together, or even playing in your backyard. Not only will it make everyone feel comfortable with me being around, but they’ll forget the cameras there and have a good time! Not every session must be a big ordeal; sometimes, capturing the authentic moments in life is just as important.
An in-home session is also great for newborn sessions! There is less stress on you and the baby, and you can keep them warm and cozy!
However, remember that you may feel stressed ensuring your home is photo-ready. This may be one of the only downsides to in-home photos, but it’s not that big of a deal! Please focus on the areas we’ll be shooting in and forget about the rest of the house. I don’t judge!
Outdoor Family Photos
If you’re opting for outdoor family photos, consider the location. Do you have a preference? What are your travel limits? Do you have young children? All of these questions should be considered when planning your outdoor family photos. Discuss any limitations or special accommodations you may have with me before we choose your location. Maybe you’re potty training your youngest, so we should ensure restrooms are nearby!
Consider the time of year and weather! Often, I schedule a Denver family session for early evenings before sunsets or even a sunrise session to ensure we get the best lighting. During the winter after daylight savings, things can get a little tricky, but with proper planning, it’s no biggie. Lastly, consider your outfits. You won’t need to dress too fancy, especially if we’re going to be outdoors in the woods, etc. It should be easy for you to move and walk in the location!
Whether you choose an indoor or outdoor session, I know your photos will be incredible, and you’ll make memories to last a lifetime! Looking for your dream Denver family photographer? Reach out today!
